Professional Officer (Machining)

The Professional Officer acts as a first line mentor to SIT’s students on practical activities such as laboratory classes, student projects and Integrated Work Study Program (IWSP) to enhance the students’ technical problem-solving skills and increase their preparedness for industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the faculty in the developing, designing and planning of laboratory facilities designated for teaching and research activities in the area. Provide training to students on usage of laboratory equipment.
  • Work with and guide students on projects and laboratory activities to enhance their practical problem solving skills.  This may involve conduct of relevant practical activities as well as supervision of students in their projects and laboratory assignments as a part of applied learning.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers
  • Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Support the faculty in the supervision and assessment of students’ assignments, e.g., research projects, design projects and Final Year Projects.
  • Support research and industrial project work undertaken by the university
  • Support the faculty in the execution of the Integrated Work Study Program (IWSP).
  • Mentor students during practical laboratory classes and projects to enhance their technical problem-solving skills.  This may involve conduct of relevant practical activities as well as supervision of students in their laboratory assignments and projects as part of applied learning.  Assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities

Job Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing or Mechatronics Engineering from a recognized University
  • Preferably, with at least 5 years of work experience in an industrial environment.  Applicants without a degree but with 10 years of hands-on industrial experience may also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience and competent in basic machining
  • Hands-on experience and competent with CAD, CNC programming and post processing
  • Hands-on experience and competent in 3D printing including the upstream and downstream processes 
  • Experience in converting scanned point cloud data to solid model, DICOM to CAD models will be an advantage 
  • Knowledge in basic metrology and CMM will be an advantage
