The Professional Officer’s primary job scope is to participate in and manage an industry innovation project and ensure that all project deliverables are met. 

The Professional Officer’s secondary job scope may involve facilitating SIT’s students learning during hands-on and practical activities to enhance the students’ technical problem solving skills and increase their preparedness for industry.   

Key Responsibilities
  • To carry out research and study on the section properties and welding procedure specifications for high strength steel
  • To conduct metallurgical and mechanical testing of high strength steel
  • To develop design guide for high strength steel sections
  • Train undergraduate students in laboratory skillsets related to the project.
  • To coordinate and assist in the evaluation, procurement and commissioning of teaching and research resources
  • To work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operations and maintenance of equipment as well as in the preparation of teaching/research materials
  • To ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations; perform risk assessment for all practical work conducted within the laboratory
Job Requirements
  • A Master’s Degree (by research) in Civil Engineering from a recognized University. Possessing a PhD degree will be advantageous
  • At least 3 years of research experience in steel structures
  • Familiar with structural design code Eurocode 3 (EN1993-1) and welding code for steel AWS D1.1Skills of metallurgical and mechanical testing.
  • Skills of finite element simulation (ABAQUS or ANSYS) will be a plus
  • Proficient in research and academic support work, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
